Breast Cancer Awareness Month
October is Breast Cancer Awareness Month in Singapore, and all around the world. This month is dedicated to raising awareness of breast cancer in our communities with the ultimate aim of reducing breast cancer deaths through early detection and treatment.
Regular breast screening not only saves lives but also breasts. During October, KKH, in partnership with other local agencies and organisations, will be promoting this message, with a number of exciting and meaningful activities for women and their families.
What can you do in October?
- Encourage your friends and relatives to take simple steps to monitor their breast health (and perhaps save their life!): monthly breast self examination, yearly clinical breast examination and 1-2 yearly mammograms (especially women in their 50s and 60s, who have a higher risk of cancer).
- If you know someone who has a breast lump or other symptoms but is too afraid to seek treatment, encourage her and even accompany her to see a doctor for further tests. Remember that early detection and treatment always leads to better cure rates.
If you would like to make an appointment for a mammogram at KKH Breast Centre, simply call 63948058.
